Classroom Digital Learning Plan

Beginning on Monday, March 16th, this course will switch to fully online digital format until school resumes.

How can I access my work digitally?
It is your responsibility to check Google Classroom, which will be updated to reflect what you are expected to be working on at home. New assignments will be uploaded each day by 10:30AM. You may then contact me during my digital communication hours (listed below) if you have any questions or need any assistance.

Will you be available to answer questions? How should I contact you with questions?
I will be available every day (Monday-Friday) from 10:30AM-12PM through both Remind and email ([email protected]). You may, of course, contact me through these modes at any time day or night, but during the digital communication hours listed above, you can expect a rapid response

How will I take a quiz or test?
In the event that school is cancelled for an extended length of time, taking a quiz or test digitally may be required. You will therefore be asked to take your quiz or test via Google Classroom. The timed assessment will be open for submissions during school hours only (8:20am – 3:30pm). Tests and quizzes will be timed, and you are expected to complete it as if you were in class taking a test. Any students found to have cheated on a virtual test or quiz will receive a zero.

Independent Reading
Honors World Literature
students are currently reading either Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns (student choice), and they should adhere to the reading schedule they were given at the beginning of the unit (see below). Corresponding activities will be posted to Google Classroom.

World Literature students checked out the book SOLD from the Bookroom on Friday and received corresponding discussion questions. Students who were absent on Friday can search SOLD PDF, and they should be able to download an electronic copy of the book that they can read online. Discussion questions will be posted to Google Classroom. The reading schedule is as follows:

What if I cannot access the digital content?
All students have been asked to bring home their Springboard consumable textbooks. Students who are unable to access Google Classroom for whatever reason should communicate with me either through Remind or through email to receive instruction on assignments they should complete in the Springboard text.

4th block World Literature students have torn out the second half of Springboard Unit 2. They will be expected to complete the activities in this unit while they are at home. I will send out a breakdown of assignments through Remind each day. Please contact me with any questions.

Logins, Sites, and other important information…

Google Classroom- students should login using their google classroom email ([email protected]) and the password they created. Any students who have trouble logging in should contact me ASAP so that I can help them troubleshoot and/or reset their password. All students that were present on Friday were able to successfully login to their Google Classroom account and complete an assignment.

Remind- All students should have signed up for my Remind; parents are welcome to sign up as well. To join, text the appropriate class code to the number 81010

1st block: @voakes1hwl
2nd block: @voakes2hwl
4th block: @ voakes4wl

Clever- Assignments posted in Google Classroom may require student access to other educational platforms such as Common Lit, Springboard, Newsela, and Zinc. All of these platforms can be accessed via Clever.com using one single sign-in. To login to Clever, students should choose “Active Directory” and use their Office 365 account ([email protected]) with their school computer password. Again, please contact me through Remind or through email if students have any trouble accessing any of these platforms.

Please note that the digital classroom will run very much like our regular classroom. You will be expected to complete all assignments given. Deadlines will be given, and students who do not meet the deadlines will receive zeros. Cancelled school is not vacation time. You are expected to complete schoolwork at home during this time. When physical school resumes, we will pick up where digital learning left off. You must stay up to date to avoid falling behind and hurting your grade.

Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any of your questions or concerns. I am happy to help!
