Good afternoon,
We wanted to take a moment to reach out to all of you regarding the future of World Languages classes at McEachern this semester.
As I’m sure you are aware, Cobb County School District has decided that “students have a choice to accept their grades as of March 13, 2020, as final grades for the 2019-2020 school year OR continue to earn grades for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year to improve their grade(s). We want to clarify that if a student chooses not to participate, perform or actively engage with his/her teacher(s), and they do not take advantage of assignment opportunities, this will result in their final grade being the grade that they had on March 13. The only way for the March 13th grade to improve is for the student to submit assignments and participate in the digital learning opportunities made available to him/her by the teacher.”
With that in mind, here is some clarification on how grades will work moving forward.
If you are satisfied with your current grade, you DO NOT have to do any more work, and you will receive that grade for the course.
Your grade can only improve from the point that it was on March 13, 2020. This means that if you do not turn something in, it cannot hurt your grade. There will be no zeros entered the grade book beyond March 13. I will only enter grades that help your overall average. If the grade is blank, your grade was lower than your average, and it was not entered because it would not have helped your grade.
If you turn in work and your grade improves to your goal grade, you can then stop submitting work. For example, if you have an 87 in the course, submit work, and your grade goes up to a 90, you can choose to stop working and receive a 90 in the course.
We understand that this is a confusing and frustrating time for all of us. We will continue to assign work, videos, and have online class meetings and continue their digital learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.
