South Cobb Council of PTA Scholarship – This is a $1,000.00 need-based scholarship that WILL be awarded to one student at McEachern! Eligibility requirements: you must be a current PTSA member (it is not too late! Contact Mrs. Burden, our PTSA president, and join today!); 2.8 or higher GPA; letter of acceptance from chosen college/university; SAT 1200 or higher (out of 2400) -OR- cumulative ACT score of 18 or higher. Deadline: Applications must be returned to Mrs. Royer in the FC Office by April 22, 2009. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!
Sigma Alpha Scholarship (UGA) – Sigma Alpha is a professional agricultural sorority for women with a sincere interest in agriculture. The women of SA strive to promote scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship among its members. The women of SA have chosen to offer a $500 scholarship to one female high school senior entering UGA in the Fall of 2009. The scholarship will be paid during the Spring 2010 semester after you are officially accepted and enrolled full-time at UGA. Applications available in the FC Scholarship Cabinet. Andrew J. Oswald Memorial Scholarship Program – Andrew Oswald played lacrosse for Pope High School. Lacrosse was his passion. Sadly, Andrew died in July 2005 due to injuries sustained in a car accident. This program seeks to honor Andrew’s memory by promoting the growth of lacrosse in Georgia, and by supporting the academic endeavors of those who love the game and plan to play lacrosse in college. The scholarship is $1,000 per year for 4 years in college. To be eligible, you must have made contributions to the sport or to your team; also, have made contributions to your school and community. Ayn Rand Institute - is pleased to announce its annual “Fountainhead” Essay Contest for high school students. This competition is open to all 11th and 12th grade students. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Debutante Cotillion – This year’s Southern Crescent Pearls Debutante Cotillion gives young ladies the opportunity to attend cultural events that will enlighten your minds and enhance your high school experience, while competing for scholarships. Scholarships are provided for select graduating seniors who attain high academic excellence. Both juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in the cotillion. A Cotillion Information Meeting will be held on April 25, 2009 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at the Clayton County Library Headquarters (865 Battlecreek Rd., Jonesboro, GA 30236.)
“Will to Win” Scholarship – Schering-Plough, a leader in respiratory care, sponsors the “Will to Win” Scholarship Program for high school seniors with asthma who are pursuing higher education. This nationwide program is not just for athletes; it is meant for all high school seniors who are outstanding, disciplined, determined, and successful in managing their asthma. This program serves to demonstrate to young asthma sufferers that the condition, when properly managed, need not impede their ability to excel. A total of $50,000 in college scholarships will be awarded. To qualify, you must be a current high school senior with asthma who will graduate in 2009; have achieved a level of excellence in one of the following: performing arts, community service, athletics, visual arts or science; have a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher; have received at least one award related to your entry category; and will be attending college in fall 2009. LSH Memorial Scholarship Fund – The Lemon Street High School Class of 1962 is an active alumni association committed to serving the community in which they were reared and educated. These scholarships are offered as a memorial to their alma mater and “are available to ‘Black’ high school students in the Cobb County area.” The LSH-Dorothy M. Dyer Collegiate Scholarship is worth $1,000 and will be awarded to a student who will attend a four year college. The LSH-Freeman M. Johnson Voc-Tech Scholarship is worth $500 and will be awarded to a student who will attend a two-year college, business, or trade school. To be eligible, “you must be a Black high school student living in Cobb County, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and have applied or been accepted at an institution of higher learning.” Applications available in the FC Scholarship cabinet. AEMP Legacy Foundation Scholarship – According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in three years, the demand for technicians will grow 12.4% annually. Anticipating this technician shortage, the AEMP Foundation has created a scholarship program which awards numerous two-year scholarships to eligible students. This is an outstanding opportunity for students interested in the equipment industry. You will be introduced to the professional world of equipment management. All students are eligible, but priority will be given to students who are motivated, responsible, and have a strong capacity for achievement. Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) Academic Scholarship – Our local OSIA Lodge #2607 is again making available a minimum $500 scholarship to a deserving student. The award is not based on financial need, nor athletics. They seek submissions from those that place academics as the most important segment of their schooling. To be eligible, applicants must be an American citizen of Italian descent that have been accepted to attend an accredited college or university. Applications available in the FC Scholarship Cabinet. The Balanced Man Scholarships (UGA) – The Georgia Delta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity is sponsoring three (3) Balanced Man Scholarships in the amounts of $1,000, $500, and $250 to three outstanding freshman males entering The University of Georgia next year. To qualify, you must embody the principles of the Balanced Man. The aim of this scholarship is to recognize and reward men who strive to achieve balance and all-around excellence. Columbus H. Hartwell – Young Visionary Scholarship Award – The XTM Foundation is currently seeking applications for the Columbus H. Hartwell – Young Visionary (CHH-YV) Scholarship Award. The purpose of the CHH-YV Scholarship is to recognize and encourage the pursuit of the dreams and visions of young people by supporting the development of their talents and creative abilities. This year’s award is $1,000, which will be granted to a graduating high school senior entering an accredited post-secondary institution or vocational program in the fall of 2009. Atlanta Jamaican Association – The AJA is a non-profit organization founded to promote friendship, unity, and understanding between the peoples of Jamaica and the United States. This scholarship program was established to assist college-bound high school seniors of Jamaican ancestry. To qualify, you must be of Jamaican parentage, meaning that at least one parent must be Jamaican; currently hold a minimum 3.0 GPA, and not be the recipient of a full scholarship to any college or university. Delta Chi Fraternity Scholarship (GA Tech) – For the very first time, Delta Chi is sponsoring a scholarship for incoming male freshmen. It was created to identify and reward an incoming freshman who possesses a chivalrous attitude, academic fortitude, and passion for involvement. The $500 award is given based on the applicant’s academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and character. There is no requirement to join or even rush Delta Chi to receive the scholarship. This is the first year of the scholarship’s existence, so they foresee a small applicant pool – odds are much better for the few that apply! Priority Deadline June 1, 2009.
United Boricuas of Georgia (UBOG) Scholarship – The mission of UBOG is to preserve and share the richness and diversity of the Hispanic Puerto Rican culture in Georgia. Their vision is to build a united community of positive, responsible citizens that proudly contribute to our society as a whole. UBOG will award scholarships of $1,000 each for the 2009-2010 school year. To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen, be of Hispanic heritage, be a college-bound high school senior, be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate a strong interest in and familiarity with Latino/Hispanic community or family activities. Beta Iota Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity Scholarship (GA Tech) – is proud to announce two $500 scholarships for the Fall 2009 term. The application is available online at http://www.gtato.org/. Applicants must be incoming male freshmen at Georgia Tech (but do not necessarily have to be interested in fraternity life). Applicants will be judged based on their leadership skills through school/community involvement, athletics, and special interests. Deadline August 3, 2009.
Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship – For over 30 years, the GA Engineering Foundation has sponsored a program that awards college scholarships to worth Georgia students who are preparing for a career in engineering or engineering technology. All scholarships are competitively awarded based on demonstrated competence in math, science, and communication skills, your interest in a career in engineering, financial need, and your school/community involvement. Tech Promise (Georgia Tech) – is pleased to announce its annual Tech Promise program. The program is designed to fill a gap in the financial aid support system, picking up where Georgia's HOPE scholarship and other financial aid options leave off. The program is intended to assist Georgia students whose families have an annual income of less than $33,000. For additional information, call 404-894-4160. The American Legion – is please to announce the annual High School Oratorical Scholarship Program for 2009. Contestants must be high school students under the age of 20, and be citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States. Cash prizes through the State championship can total as much as $2,500, and the National winners are awarded scholarships of $18,000, $16,000, and $14,000 respectively for first, second, and third place. Florida A & M University Computer Information Sciences (CIS) Scholarship – FAMU is providing an outstanding opportunity for Black women entering college in the Fall 2009. It is designed to address their absence in the field of computer technology. Scholarships are available from $4,000 to $10,000 per year for female African American students. The program, entitled African-American Women in Computer Science (AAWCS), is a four-year program that provides scholarships and other assistance to women who express a financial need and an interest in computer science or information technology. Harvard University FREE TUTION – Harvard University announces that from now on, undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. If your family earns less that $60,000 a year and you are an honor student graduating from high school this spring, Harvard University wants to pay your tuition! Other Opportunities & Scholarships for 9th – 11th graders
NAACP ACT-SO Competition – Students in grades 9 – 12 who have an interest and/or talent in the Sciences, Humanities, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and/or Business are encouraged to participate in this competition. ACT-SO is an acronym that stands for Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics. The competition is scheduled to be held on April 25, 2009 at Southern Polytechnic State University. Registration begins at 9:00am and competition starts at 10:00am. You may enter up to three (3) of any of the subjects listed in all categories on the application. Cobb Youth Leadership Program – Cobb Youth Leadership (CYL), a program of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, is looking for applicants for the 2009-2010 year. CYL is a leadership program for high school juniors from Cobb County looking to gain awareness of the social, political, and economic needs of the community. The program focuses on developing personal leadership styles through interactive participation. If you want to be a future leader for Cobb County, then apply today! Nordstrom Scholarship Program – Nordstrom is pleased to once again to offer the Nordstrom Scholarship Program to current high school juniors, in an effort to support and encourage the pursuit of high education. To be eligible, you must have a cumulative, unweighted GPA of at least 2.7, have made a substantial contribution to the community, be involved in school activities, require financial assistance to attend college, and be eligible to attend a four-year college or university in the U.S. They will award five (5) scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each. The award will be paid in annual installments of $2.500 over a four-year period. Applications available in the FC Scholarship Cabinet.

Guild Scholar – This is a scholarship program for visually impaired high school students. The Guild offers an annual scholarship program for college-bound high school students who are legally blind. Applications will be accepted from students at the end of your junior year, and recipients are slected and scholarships awarded later in your senior year. The Program will award 12 to 15 scholarships of up to $15,000 each!! Information available in FC Scholarship Cabinet. Deadline July 1, 2009.
