The McEachern Fast Pitch Indians are excited to begin the fall 2011 season! This year’s varsity club returns three starters and seven lettermen from a year ago under the senior leadership of Rachel Abernathy, Celenia Bidot, Vanessa Chapple, Kaitlin Leng, Brenda Luke, and Heather Peters.
The 2010 Indians enjoyed a successful campaign reaching the quarterfinals of the region tournament and finished one game shy of advancing to the State Playoffs. Indians receiving post-season honors on the All-Region Team include Lauren Coleman on the 1st Team, followed by Emily Benton and Austyn Wix both named as honorable mentions. The Class of 2011 placed two Indians into the college softball ranks with Lauren Coleman (Georgia State) and Emily Benton (Bryan College) advancing and continuing their careers. Alumni Indians playing at the collegiate level include Laura Voyles ’07 (North Georgia College), Branigan Wix ‘08 (Columbus State), Kelci Leng ’08 (Brewton Parker), and Chelsea Huffman ’10 (Georgia College & State Univ.).
Coach Russ Russell is in his third year coaching in McEachern Softball and his first year as Head Coach. The last two years he has also served as the JV Baseball Head Coach. Coach Russell is a member of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, the American Baseball Coaches Association, and the Georgia Dugout Club. He is assisted this season by Coach Bret Hash.
