Passing scores on the Georgia
High School Graduation Tests are required for earning your
high school diploma.
Students
working on College Preparatory and Career Technology Diplomas
must pass the five sections of the Georgia High School
Graduation Test.
Students take the exams during
their Junior year. These tests are typically taken in March. Students
will take the test here at McEachern during the regular
school day. The GHSGT is required for graduation. Please plan
on attending school during testing days.
The Pass scores for all four
content areas appear in the following chart:
Subject Area |
Pass |
| English
Language Arts |
200 out of 350 to pass |
| Mathematics |
500 out of 600 to pass |
| Science |
200 out of 370 to pass |
| Social
Studies |
500 out of 600 to pass |
| Writing |
200 out of 350 to pass |
On these four sections of the GHSGT,
the student will be asked to answer various multiple choice
questions. The writing test is different, of course. Students
will be assigned a topic and required to write a brief essay
in response. On this portion, they’ll be graded on their
writing style, how well they organize and present facts and
details, their understanding and usage of proper grammar and
vocabulary, and their skill at structuring sentences. Passing
the GHSGT is a hurdle that must be overcome if a Georgia high
school student hopes to succeed in life after school, either
in the work place or in pursuing higher education. The test
should not be taken lightly, as failure to pass will have
serious and lifelong ramifications. It’s strongly suggested
that students get a good study guide and prep program before
attempting to take the GHSGT.
